  2. How to put a country flag next to the thread/topic title If you have a bait and you would like users to see what country the scammer is from, why not put a flag next to the thread title... here's how: Find what country your scammer is in - if the scammer is not using Gmail/Live/Hotmail/MSN/Outlook then copy the email header into http://scammed.by/analyze.php (unless your scammer is obviously in a certain country!) When posting the thread, there will be a menu "Topic Prefix". Select the country!
  3. How to report a website Collect evidence, for example the original scam email that linked to the website, complete with email header Find the abuse email address to send the evidence to (go to who.is and enter the domain name and see what abuse email address comes up) If there is no abuse email address listed, go to whoishostingthis.com and enter the domain name. It will show you who the web host for the fake site is - go to the web host's website and find their contact details Send the evidence and say the website should be taken down as it is a scam or phishing website

  7. Need help formatting text on the forum? Here's a guide to everything you can do when posting, you'll be surprised how much can be done so easily: http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/index.php?app=forums&module=extras&section=legends&do=bbcode
  8. How to check where a scam email came from Visit http://scammed.by/analyze.php and paste the header from the scam into the box (visit https://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/893/How+do+I+view+email+headers+for+a+message%3F to see how to view the message header)
  9. How to talk to scammers Register a new Skype account (do not use your personal Skype account for this!) Download Skype (http://www.skype.com/en/download-skype/) Buy credit We advise you rent a Skype number (https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA256/how-do-i-set-up-my-skype-number) as scammers often ignore calls from anonymous numbers (if you don't add a number to Skype, you will show up as 'withheld' or 'anonymous'). When you call a scammer, your Skype number will appear as the caller ID; also, when a scammer calls your Skype number the call will go to your Skype account Instead of a Skype number, you can get a free pay-as-you-go SIM card (in the UK almost every mobile network lets you apply for a free one online, but with some you need to add credit before you can receive calls on that number). When you get your SIM card, put it in any mobile phone then follow the instructions here: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1248/what-is-caller-identification-and-how-do-i-set-it-up Although you can call a scammer using Skype with a caller ID from a mobile SIM card, if a scammer calls you back your mobile will ring instead of Skype - if you don't want scammers to be able to call that number simply take the SIM card out of the mobile phone... If you plan to call scammers often in a certain country, you can buy a subscription. Check prices at http://www.skype.com/en/rates/ - you can buy a certain amount of minutes (e.g. 400) for a fixed price, or even unlimited minutes to certain countries Some countries like Nigeria are very cheap to call, but others like Mali are expensive! How to give a scammer a phone number that only receives voice messages If you don't want a scammer to talk to you, but your scammer is begging you for a number, there is a free solution. Get a free answerphone number http://www.laservoicemail.com and http://www.k7.net are both the same company and provide a free Seattle-based +1(206) phone number which people can call and leave messages. Messages are accessed and downloaded via their website http://www.eaglemessaging.com provides a free Manhattan-based +1(212) or +1(646) phone number which people can call and leave messages. Messages are accessed and downloaded via their website http://www.mysanumber.co.za provides a free South African Voice2Mail phone number which people can call and leave messages. Messages are emailed to you.
  10. How to bait scammers safely and how to avoid assisting them Never use your real name Create a new email address for baiting - use gmail.com or outlook.com because these hide your IP address - use [email protected] etc. instead of [email protected] Never send any real contact details - these include your private phone number and real address Never send an actual passport scan, ID card scan etc. if the scammer asks for them - even if you make a bad fake one. Scammers reuse these and your fake ID might be used to trick a victim! Never tell a scammer s/he's been baited If a scammer's wrong about something, don't correct them - 'de-education' goes a step further and is where you actually convince a scammer that some incorrect information is correct. This stops a scammer from making their scams more convincing as they will continue to give obviously wrong details in their scams How to make it look like you're replying to a scam you found somewhere else If you are using a scam email from Scammed.by, for example, create a new email in your baiting account, add a couple of blank lines then paste: On 20 January 2014 16:56, Name Surname <[email protected]> wrote: Replace the values with the details of the scam email, you can make up stuff for the date and time if you're in a hurry Then paste the original scam email under that. Finally, change the subject of the email to: Re: OriginalSubject Now it looks like you're replying to the original scam - you don't have to do this, but some scammers do get suspicious if you're not replying to their scam but sending a new email
  11. How to get scam emails Go to any search engine (Google, Bing, Yahoo, Ask, they're all good) and search mugu guestbook (you might also want to add the current year as new ones are made each year), then sign the guestbook with your baiter name and email address Visit http://scammed.by and have a look through the emails there, then email the scammers from your baiting email address Check out our scam email section (http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/index.php?/forum/14-scams-surplus-de-scams/) - most emails are automatically fetched from http://scammed.by though
  12. How to create a blog Visit http://www.thescambaiter.com/forum/index.php?/blogs/ Click 'create a new blog' Accept the terms (we didn't type those!) Enter the blog's name and (if you want) the description (type will most likely be 'local') Choose your settings Uncheck 'allow guests to view your blog' to put it behind a login (to stop Google etc finding it, for example) You might want to set 'default status of new entries' to 'public', otherwise anything you type and save will not appear until you publish it which might confuse! Click the 'editors' tab if you want to allow any other members to post to your blog and edit and delete blog entries You most likely won't need to touch the 'blog sharing' and 'advanced settings' tabs Click save Now, select the blog and you'll see buttons at the top 'Add blocks' lets you add things to your blog's front page, like a photo, a tag cloud, a search box, or a list of categories in your blog 'Add entry' is what you'll click to blog something How to add blog posts When you click 'add entry' you can choose the 'entry image' - this is the image that'll be displayed next to your blog post. 'Entry album' lets you choose what album you want to display with the blog post. You can choose a category on the right of the page, it will also let you make categories. At the top of the blog post, the contents of the album will be displayed as icons. The entry image will be displayed at the top left of the blog post, larger than the album icons.
