BAITING 101

Scambaiting is the art of engaging internet scammers in an effort to make them believe that a payday is imminent while you waste their time, money, resources and hopefully distract them from taking advantage of real victims.

It really is that simple; although you will inevitably run across those who strive to make it more complicated. We’re going to focus on the simple, getting you up and baiting in the shortest time and safest way possible.

1 – BE SAFE

The people you will be dealing with are not the most trustworthy individuals in the world. They can and likely will try anything to get the advantage over what they view as a gullible victim.

- Never use your real name. Ever. Make one up.

- Never use your real address. Pick another city and invent an address if you must. Google Maps can help

- Never bait from you main email address. Gmail is a baiter’s dream that you will grow to love the longer you use it. It’s free, anonymous (as long as you use the web interface) and very versatile.

- Grab a good virus scanner and keep it updated.

2 – PICK A SCAMMER

This couldn't be easier. Go to “Scam E-Mails” sections of the forums here and find a letter you like. Respond using your new Gmail account and fake identity and you’re away to the races. If you don’t get a reply, don’t worry... pick another and try again. Have patience and you will be rewarded.

3 – INDULGE YOURSELF

Once you have a dialogue going, indulge your creative side and see how far you can push it. If you lose him, get another letter and start again. Eventually, you will hit on a system that gets results.

4 – PASSPORTS, ID CARDS & WEIRD DOCUMENTS

In almost all cases, these will be the first trophies that you ever receive from a scammer. Most will hand them out like skittles but that shouldn’t take away from the thrill you get when you get your first ones.

On the other hand, if your lad asks YOU for these items, don’t send them. Make up excuses or just ignore the requests altogether. Eventually the lad will get past it and move on and if he doesn’t, well... pick another letter and try again.

That’s essentially basic baiting in a nutshell. It’s not rocket science but like anything else, there are advanced levels that you will eventually become aware of as you gain experience. These advanced levels will become more apparent and more obvious as you progress but you shouldn’t worry about them now. Just go out, have some fun and screw up some day.
